Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay is a Californian born in Long beach on 24 August 1972. DuVernay started to discover her artistic and creative side in her early years, thanks to Aunt Denise. The aunt was on in the evening shift as a nurse to ensure she could follow her passion of theater and literature throughout the day. DuVernay loved the film West Side Story, which she brought to her. DuVernay discovered through her example that art can be a vehicle for activism. In the same way, her mother was socially aware and taught that she could express her thoughts through the art of. DuVernay resided in Compton during the majority of her life, but spent every summer in the company of the extended family of her father located in Lowndes County Alabama. DuVernay's dad recalled the protests for civil rights that took place over the Edmund Pettus Bridge and the Selma town that was nearby, Alabama. The summers she spent in Alabama's Selma be the inspiration for her later the film about the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay received her graduation certificate at Saint Joseph High School, Lakewood California in 1990. After graduation she was enrolled at an institution called the University of California Los Angeles where she received certificates in English and African American studies. DuVernay began to produce for broadcast journalism while she was still in college. DuVernay was an intern at CBS News at the time of O.J. Simpson's trial. DuVernay recalled being assigned to observe the house of one member of the jury as well as go through their garbage. The work she was assigned to did not leave her satisfied by journalism and she decided to move towards the industry of public relations. DuVernay was hired right from college to be a junior publicist at the studio that was small. The DuVernay Agency is her first public relations agency. In addition to PR her agency also launched several marketing and lifestyle platforms, such as Urban Beauty Collective, the Urban Beauty Collective, Urban Thought Collective, Urban Eye and HelloBeautiful.
